What is the truth about
green tea and weight loss?

There have not been enough human studies to prove the claim, and not
all studies agree that it will help you lose weight. However, one recent
study found that daily green tea extracts helped obese men and women
lower their BMI (body mass index), which is an indicator of body fat, and
helped reduce belly fat which has been linked to an increased risk of
death.

Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and therefore extremely healthy for
you. Drinking it daily really should have no adverse effects on your
health. While the studies are as yet inconclusive, there is evidence to
support the claims. In the past decade studies have revealed the
potential of green tea to fight cancer and heart disease, lower
cholesterol, burn fat, prevent diabetes and stroke, and hold off dementia.
Most of these studies have been conducted in labs. The few, large scale
human studies have been conducted in the East, where green tea
consumption is very high, and diets are generally healthier than in the
West.

The real truth about green tea is that, yes, it is good for you and may
help you lose weight. The unknown is exactly how much a person needs
to reap the full benefits. Undoubtedly, many more studies will be done
before we fully understand the entire scope of what green tea can do for
our health. Drink as much as you want. A few cups a day will positively
affect your health. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking
green tea supplements, especially if you have liver problems, to make
sure what you are buying is safe. Since green tea is not fully understood,
some doctors suggest dietary sources (drinking green tea) instead of
supplements, because there may be several compounds in the tea that
need to be consumed together.
